Travelling from Birmingham to Edgbaston for the Ashes Test Matches 2019

Thousands of supporters are due to visit Edgbaston Cricket Ground from 1 August 2019 to watch the series of Ashes Test matches.

If you’re among them, maybe you’re also planning on expanding your visit to take in a trip to Birmingham city centre.  Or perhaps you are staying in a city centre hotel and using it as a base while the cricket is on.

We’ve had a look at the options for those who are basing themselves in the city centre and need to get to the stadium to attend the matches.

Travelling from the city centre to the stadium

Rather than get caught up in the traffic many visitors prefer to leave their car in the city centre, and from there take public transport or a taxi to the event.

Be bowled over by Birmingham’s loveliest car park

If you’re looking for a place to leave your car in the city centre, then B4 Car Park is ideal.  The entrance is on Weaman Street, just off the A38(M).

  • Safe and secure – CCTV cameras, well lit floors, staff on site
  • Family friendly – passenger lifts, toilets, baby change
  • 24/7 access – open all day, every day.

All are welcome at B4, but if you sign-up for FREE membership you get discounts on your parking. B4 members benefit from 20% off the standard tariff during the week, and 50% off the standard tariff at the weekend.

Shuttle Bus

The 501 shuttle bus runs between the city centre and the stadium. Its pick-up point is on Smallbrook Queensway (opposite TK Maxx and close to the Bullring). It takes about 8 minutes to walk from B4 to the pick-up point. For shuttle bus ticket prices visit edgbaston.com for details.

Public Buses

Local buses frequently travel to the ground from Carrs Lane, which is a short walk from B4.  Numbers 45 and 47 operated by National Express will drop you off on Pershore Road; about a 2 minute walk from the cricket ground.  Information on these buses can be found at nxbus.co.uk.

Car/Taxi

If you do decide to travel by car to the stadium, it’s approximately a 12-15 minute journey from B4.
