The General Dental Council regulates dental professionals in the UK, maintaining standards for the benefit of patients. It is a UK-wide statutory regulator of around 110,000 members of the dental team.
The main purpose and aim behind the General Dental council is to protect patient safety and maintain public confidence in dental services. The GDC achieve this through a register of qualified dental health professionals. Any individual wanting to work within the UK as a dentist or dental care professional must be registered with the GDC, only those who are registered can practise dentistry in the UK.
