The legends originally known as The Dubliners will be gracing us all this March 2020. The original founders Ronnie Drew, Luke Kelly, Ciaran Bourke, Barney McKenna & John Sheahan came together in 1962 and formed the band, which we now know as The Dublin Legends.
Now with over 60 years of performing beguiling Irish folk to a new generation of Irish folk music fans, The Dublin Legends will be playing at Birmingham Town Hall.
The Dubliners helped popularise Irish folk music around the world with their mix of up-tempo songs, street ballads and instrumentals. 2012 was a remarkable year for the legendary Dubliners as they celebrated 50 glorious years of being the ultimate icons of Irish folk music in the industry. The remarkable year was marked by their Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and was rapidly followed with a sell-out UK concert tour, where the band played magically at the magnificent The Royal Albert Hall in London!
However following the unfortunate sudden death of founding member Barney McKenna in 2012 alongside John Sheahan’s decision to retire it was agreed that the original Dubliners band would come to an end and thus gave birth to The Dublin Legends. Tragically in 2017 they had lost yet another gem, Eamonn Campbell, whose wish was for the band to continue and finish the album they had begun recording.
Still going strong as ever, last standing original Dubliner, Sean Cannon along with Paul Watchorn, Gerry O’Connor and Shay Kavanagh continue to play all the classic songs and ballads known to the world like Whiskey in The Jar, Dirty Old Town, The Wild Rover, Seven Drunken Nights, The Rare Auld Times, Molly Malone, The Irish Rover, Black Velvet Band & many more!
Come and see the lads play all their classics at Town Hall this March 2020 because they’ll surely be delighted to see you!
